Shopping Centers

The shopping in Chiang Mai has something to appeal to everyone, even the major shopping centers offer access to local handicrafts. There are specialty computer and tech shopping centers as well as the two major shopping centers.

Chiang Mai has two large shopping centers; the older but charming Kad Suan Kaew (Kad is the northern Thai word for market) on Huay Kaew Road and convenient for those on the North and East sides of the city and Central Airport Plaza near the Airport on the South West side.

Kad Suan Kaew is not only a regular shopping center (located on Kad Suan Kaew) but also has a vibrant night market on the weekends.

Central Airport Plaza is a huge modern shopping center over 5 floors and has not only all the regular modern stores with clothes for men and women, shoes, jewelry, Robinson Department store, chemists, hair salons, sporting goods, and restaurants, but it also has the unique Northern Village that has high quality local handicrafts and silk clothes for sale. There is also a Northern Thai food court on the bottom floor next to the Tops Supermarket that is worth a visit. The top floor has cinemas and more food courts, restaurants and entertainment.

Kad Suan Kaew also has a Tops supermarket in addition to chemists such as Boots, Watsons, a Central Department store, shoes and clothes, the popular Export 71 store that offers clothes in western sizes, sporting goods, mobile phones, a food court offering traditional food in the back and an excellent bargain massage place next to it that aids the Doi Saket Senior Citizen home.
