Movie theaters and venues
Chiang Mai has two major shopping centers with large movie theaters inside and then a few places peppered around the city showing various films.
Central Airport Plaza has a very large, very modern movie theater complex on the fourth floor called the Major Cineplex. The theater features many Thai and Western films, including western films that are in English with Thai subtitles. They get the big movies here, generally fairly early on.

Kad Suan Kaew has the Vista Cinema on the 4th floor and this smaller and slightly shabbier theater has more movies in Thai but does have major movies in English as well. The top floor features a theater that shows classical music concerts, plays, and ballet.

Venues around town
The Alliance Francaise shows French films every Friday night at 8 p.m. at their lovely building 138 Thanon Charoen Prathet.
Film Space is at the CMU Art Museum on Nimmanhaemin, movies not in English will have subtitles. The films take place on the roof weather permitting or on the 2nd floor classroom. Donations requested. Saturday nights at 7 p.m.
Sangdee Gallery often has Film Fridays where films are screened at 7:30 p.m.

As noted earlier, the 5th floor of Kad Suan Kaew features a huge theater that is the venue for many concerts, plays and ballet. These events are not regularly scheduled so check the local listings for more information. Tickets are usually for sale on the ground floor Information booth.
The Playhouse Entertainment Complex is large venue that features dance and cabaret shows from some very talented performers. The show changes regularly so always check back to see if something new is in the works. Additionally, the Playhouse is often the location for different shows and parties.
